On 1’st September 1939 Hitler reinstituted the Iron Cross series of awards in the First and Second Classes and established the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross and two new Spangen (Bars) for the first and second class awards to be bestowed to recipients of the 1939 Iron Cross who had also been awarded a first or second class 1914 Iron Cross during WWI.
Cased 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross 1st Class 1914 (Wiederholungsspange 1939 für das Eiserne Kreuz 1.Klasse 1914).The Buntmetall clasp is complete with it’s fully functional pin and catch. The clasp is in very good unissued condition, showing great silver finish and polished highlights. The box remains in close to mint condition and shows the design of the badge in silver on the top. The box comes with it’s outher cardboard box, maker marked by the “B. H Mayer, Pforzheim”. The pressed paper case is opened at the bottom with all of the bottom parts missing. Besides that in good condition with light sigs of age and wear.
It’s nowadays hard to fins a first class spange, even more so a boxed one. Needless to say how hard it is to find a mint example complete with box and original cardboard box!!
