German Imperial Unit Marked SG 84/98 aA Bayonet
The bayonet has a 25cm long blade with riveted wooden grips, a sloped join to the pommel with a simple straight crossguard. Total length of bayonet and grip is 38.5cm. The blade is maker marked “Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co SOLINGEN”. The cross guard is unit marked “RE 3 109”. The other side of the ricaso is marked ERFURT with a crown above.
The side of the blade is marked with a crown, “W” and 87 which most likely is the year of production. The pommel has two small markings, wee can see a crown and a letter but very hard to clearly see what it is and ven harder to photograph.
It comes with its original 28.5cm long steel mounted leather scabbard. The scabbard is marked ”80.R.E.3.126 (mismatch). The scabbard shows signs of age and use but has no damage or mendings.
