In 1932 the first SS black service visor caps were introduced for wear to replace the kepi as the standard issue cap for all ranks. Originally all the service caps were piped with the white waffenfarbe until regulations of June 1934 introduced the silver/aluminum piping for the ranks of SS-Oberführer and above. In 1938 the first earth-grey versions of the service visor cap were introduced for wear with the newly introduced field-grey uniform.
High quality black wool construction visor cap. The centerband is constructed of fine black velvet cloth. The cap has white wool waffenfarbe to the top crown edge and both the top and bottom edges of the centerband. The front center of the cap has a M1929 pattern, silver washed political/national eagle as used from 1932-1934. The front center of the centerband has a first pattern, silver washed stamped alloy Totenkopf, as introduced 1932. The cap has a heavy officer’s chincord. The chincord is secured to the cap by two small sheet metal buttons. The cap has a black leather visor. The interior of the cap is fully lined with orange/brown colored burlap cloth. The interior of the cap also has a tan leather sweatband fully intact. Size is approx 57.
The cap is in good, still well used condition. No holes, rips tears or mendings. Inside with sweat and use soiling. Obverse shows light nap wear to exposed parts.
