Heer Panzer Recon Btl 5 Dress Bayonet With Etched Blade And Frog

The bayonet measuring 39 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 24.5 cm long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a sharpened tip and lower edge. Obverse blade has acid etching script, “Erinnerungan an meine Dienstzeit bei der Aufklärungs-Abtlg 5 Kornwestheim” (In Remembrance of my service time in Reconnaissance Battalion 5 ). The acid etching stands out nicely against its slightly recessed frosted background. A fuller runs approximately two-thirds of the length of each side of the top edge. It is plain with the exception of a maker’s mark on the reverse ricasso. Blade is really nice with minor signs of age and handling. The blade sits securely within a alloy hilt with a hooked quillon and pommel, with the seam covered by an intact black leather buffer pad. Red felt plug is still present. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are secured together with dual metal rivets. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. The bayonet also comes with a black leather frog. Both scabbard and carrying leather shows clear signs of age and use. Bayonet has a close to perfect blade and the more exposed handle shows signs of age and use.
