U-boat Machine Engine Obergefreiter's Medal and Insignia grouping
€625.00
Rare and very interesting grouping to a machine engine gefreiter serving on a U-boat. Both insignia and medals shows clear signs of real use. What make this grouping extra interesting is the oxidation all items shows. Oxidation to metal parts needs a moisture environment and of course time. With other words both the medals and insignias was most likely sewn and pinned in place while our Machine Engine Obergefreiter was on duty, serving on a u-boat. Very rare since most of the German u-boats was sunk during the war!
The grouping consists of following items:
U boat war badge. Constructed of die struck Zinc with a gold color wash. The badge is complete with intact hinge, pin and catch. The badge is maker marked to the reverse: “R.S.”. The badge has about 50% of the original paint wash still intact. The condition is well used with oxidation (zinc pest) to both front and reverse.
Iron Cross Second Class 1939, three piece construction with Iron core. Complete with medal ring, suspension ring and ribbon. The medal ring is maker marked “75” for “Franke & Co, Lüdenscheid”. The cross is in good condition with signs of age. The cross also comes with a medal ribbon in good still used condition.
Wound badge in black 1939. The badge is constructed of die struck non ferrous metal with a black paint wash. Complete with intact hinge, pin and catch. The badge shows clear signs of age and use.
DRL sports badge in bronze. Complete with hinge, pin and catch. In good condition with a nice age patina.
Three different Kriegsmarine senior engine trade insignias. All removed from a tunic with clear signs of age and use. There is also a Kriegsmarine cap tally, complete in full length with clear signs of age and use.
15cm x 11cm photo picturing a senior Kriegsmarine member on duty with leather jacket, pants, binoculars and KM cap. The picture is a bit of focus but is in good condition.
Scarce and very interesting grouping!!
