Japanese Order Of The Rising Sun 7th Class With Case of Issue

The Order of the Rising Sun was established in 1875 as Japan’s first national decoration and could be awarded to either military or civilian personnel for meritorious service. There were eight classes to this order, of which only the lowest two were given to enlisted personnel.

Produce during WWII or earlier, this medal is the sevent of the eight classes is in the form of a three-lobed spray of silver Paulownia leaves. To the reverse is a row of four kanji characters which translate to “Order of Merit Decoration.”. The ribbon is folded with alloy hook and eye to the reverse. The medal and ribbon are nested into corresponding depressions to the purple silk covered interior base of its original presentation case, whose interior lid is also lined in padded, purple silk. Black lacquered wooden case has a column of gold painted kanji characters to its cover. A hinged alloy closure device and corresponding stud is to its forward edge, and a wide alloy hinge is along its rear edge. Both medal and box is in very good condition.
